Travelers Proving Electric Cars Are Capable Of Long Haul
Online, July 23, 2012 (Newswire.com) - In spirit of their new travel tips summer campaign, D&E Mitsubishi will be watching two teams of Mitsubishi electric cars race around the planet.
Two French drivers, Xavier Degon and Antonin Guy are traveling together in a Citroen C-Zero electric car, the French version of the Mitsubishi i, in order to dispel the myth that electric vehicles are not up for the demands of long road trips, in this case, around the world. Their journey (known as the Electric Odyssey) began in March en route to 17 countries in 15,500 miles and only costing $330 in electricity charges.
Their counterpart, Rafael De Mestre, is attempting the trip in a mere eighty days, admittedly inspired by Jules Verne's "Around the World in 80 Days". De Mestre began his trip almost three months after Degon and Guy, who have been taking a more leisurely attitude to their travel. De Mestre reports that he has almost caught up with the pair in only a month's time and is on track to complete his eighty day goal.
Both teams hope to break free from "electriphobia", the fear of switching to electric cars. Perhaps this Electric Odyssey in the Mitsubishi i (Citroen C-Zero) will convert a few naysayers. After all, it did top the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy's (ACEEE) annual list for Greenest Cars for this year, beating out the Honda Civic Natural Gas, and became the first electric vehicle to be number 1.
