Trombe Ltd Improves Efficiency With Union Square
Online, December 17, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Winner of the Alan King award 2012 with the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists, Trombe is an Islington based firm specialising in the design and build of residential glass extensions. Established over 25 years ago, the business has experienced continuous success and has more than doubled its workforce in recent years.
Trombe has made the decision to purchase Union Square for Construction to help gain a more organised and collaborative approach to information management. Designer Stephanie Hill explains some of the problems that led the organisation down this route: 'Originally, the company operated with only two members of staff and so it was believed that a structured administration system was unnecessary. However, as the company began to expand on both a project and employee level, it became clear that an integrated computer system was needed to improve our information management and overall efficiency. Project documentation was being stored in yellow folders without any real organisation and at one time all email correspondence was directed to just one computer.'
Following a system demonstration by Perry Jones, Systems Consultant, Stephanie attended one of Union Square's free seminars where she was further informed of the benefits of the software. Union Square is an integrated document management system designed specifically for the construction industry. It stores business information in one central, web-based repository against projects, organisations and contacts, delivering value through improved efficiency.
During the decision making process, employees of Trombe also attended a site visit to Baxall Construction. 'It was certainly beneficial to see how the system operates in a genuine working environment and to hear firsthand the advice and opinions of existing Union Square users', reflects Stephanie. 'We had already considered other systems along the way, however we were ultimately won over by how well tailored the system is to our industry'.
Trombe took a 'big bang' approach to implementation, rolling out the system to all employees in one go. Employees have already been briefed are looking forward to receiving the benefits Union Square will bring, namely improved efficiency and easier tracking of email correspondence. Trombe also recognises the benefit of having a system in place when taking on new members of staff, 'we believe that Union Square will give us a more systematic way of working so that when new people come into the company they can easily pick it up' Stephanie concludes.
