Trust Necessary in Restoration Work

While the quality of work is important in restoration work, oftentimes, the most vital part of it is overlooked: Trust.

Fire. Water leaks. Clogged sewage. Consequences: Overwhelmed, stressed, anxious, uncertain.

All these feelings arise when a family encounters a serious issue suddenly, requiring extensive restoration work, while needing to continue their lives as per normal. Depending on the nature of the issue and the work involved, it might not be possible to use the kitchen, or the house might only have one bathroom which has serious damages. Sometimes, the family might end up needing to sleep on the couch, or move to a hotel, or get a temporary trailer installed on their property.

"Trust is vital to restoration work."

Vlad Agapov, Owner of Quality Cleaning & Restoration

While this turmoil is going on in their lives, the way in which restoration workers approach their work is the key to how smoothly the process goes. Trust and emotions are interconnected; two sides of the same coin. In the midst of disruption to the family's life, the way their personal belongings are handled affects their trust in these workers. Restoration work continues while they are off to work and school. Can they leave their personal belongings in the hands of the restoration workers? This sense of uncertainty is heightened by feelings of stress and the instability caused by their home's damages.

While the quality of the restoration work is the crux, it is still important that the family going through this feels safe leaving their personal belongings in the hands of the restoration workers. Trust is vital to their peace of mind. Communication is needed to build this trust, too. Restoration workers need to be able to empathize with the family's feelings, and thereby treat their belongings gently and with respect. It is good to keep the family updated of the restoration process, and to be readily available throughout the day and night, as our company is.

In our company, Quality Cleaning & Restoration, DKI, for example, most of our workers are family members, whom I can fully rely on to handle these delicate situations well. Aside from family, I hire by word of mouth, and it is rarely a stranger who works for us. Even so, now that we are part of the DKI organization, the largest restoration constructing organization in North America, we are required to do background checks on everybody, though we know and trust them.

These are some of the factors that could be considered in looking at which company to hire. Above all, you need to feel that you can trust them, and to communicate your needs beforehand so as to prevent unforeseen and unnecessary distress.
