Truth in Advertising in American and Jewish Law

Continuing Legal Education program in Miami June 21, Truth in Advertising in American and Jewish Law

The South Florida Center for Jewish Ethics presents "Truth in Advertising in American and Jewish Law," the third lecture in the American Cases Through the Eyes of the Talmud series. The lecture will cover the topics of Truth in Labeling and False Advertising. The series is a continued effort of the Center to educate the legal profession in South Florida about Jewish law and ethics in American life.

The lecture will be given by instructors Lance August Harke, Esq. and Rabbi Dovid Schoen. Lance A. Harke, a founding partner of the Miami Shores-based commercial litigation and consumer class action law firm of Harke Clasby & Bushman LLP, (www.harkeclasby.com), Harke resides in Miami Shores and is a trial lawyer specializing in multi-state class action litigation. He concentrates his trial practice on products liability, insurance and complex class actions, in addition to commercial and consumer litigation matters. He graduated from the University of Florida, with High Honors and received his B.A. degree in Philosophy. He received his law degree from the University of Miami School of Law, where he graduated cum laude, and was Editor-in-Chief of the University of Miami Law Review. Rabbi Schoen is a native of Los Angeles who has studied in Jerusalem, has taught Jewish law and ethics for over a decade, is currently the head of the Miami Choshen Mishpat Kollel (the graduate program for the study of Jewish monetary law) at Talmudic University, and the Dean of the South Florida Center for Jewish Ethics.

"I am honored to be speaking at a lecture series that addresses such an important topic as the ethics of advertising in American and Jewish law," says Lance A. Harke. "Advertisers with deceptive motives have the potential to persuade individuals into commercial transactions they might otherwise have avoided, if provided with all of the facts. Consumers have the right to know just what they are purchasing, and given that information visibly on the label."

"Truth in Advertising in American and Jewish Law" will be offered Tuesday, June 21, from 6:15pm to 7:30pm Bilzin Summberg, 1450 Brickell Ave., 23rd Floor. Cost is $36.00 for attorneys, $15.00 for law students, and $10.00 for judiciary members. A light dinner will be served. For more information and to RSVP please visit sfcje.org
