TTi Global Advances the Conversation on Veteran Hiring at "Veteran Open House"

TTi Global, an international workforce development company and a certified veteran-friendly employer seeks to expand opportunities for returning Michigan veterans looking for employment in the automotive industry by acknowledging skill-set equivalencies.

​All veterans were welcomed at TTi Global headquarters in Rochester Hills for their “Veteran Open House” held on November 9th in honor of Veteran’s Day. As a certified veteran-friendly company, staff members engaged with visiting veterans to assist with job placement and discuss career options.

“Over the next couple of years, nearly 50,000 service personnel will return to Michigan seeking gainful employment, states Lori Blaker, President/CEO of TTi Global. “As employers, it is our obligation to facilitate successful transitions into civilian life. I think that the business community could do a better job in evaluating skills learned in the military. Too many times, we have seen qualified candidates over-looked because equivalent training is not recognized. From a human resource perspective this is unfortunate, this is an important issue that needs to be addressed.”

At the open house, several recruiters were on hand for individual coaching and mentoring. Ron Maier, TTi Global Staffing Division Account Manager shared his insights.  “Our recruiting staff wanted an opportunity to listen to the work goals and career aspirations of veterans. As recruiters, we want to identify and then remove any obstacles that are interfering with a candidate’s placement. The training and discipline that the military provides, transfers directly to the corporate world and deserves to be acknowledged.”

Dave Thomas, Region 10 VCAT (Veterans Community Action Team) of the Michigan Veteran’s Affairs Agency’s was a participant at the open house and made the following comment. “TTi Global is making an important contribution to veteran hiring by bringing attention to the importance of evaluating equivalencies. A candidate with years of experience as a diesel mechanic should not be disqualified as a candidate because he lacks a civilian certification. Veterans deserve credit for their real life experiences.”

TTi Global earned its bronze-level veteran-friendly certification from the Michigan’s Veteran Affairs Agency earlier this year after signing the Employer’s Support for Guard and Reserve’s “Statement of Support” last fall.   

TTi Global is taking a leadership role in advancing the conversation regarding veteran hiring initiatives. In September, TTi Global sponsored the ESGR Executive Summit. The event which was held at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial brought together over 50 Michigan employers to discuss best practices on veteran hiring initiatives.
