Tufts University Converts Mondo Track & Tennis Facility to Beynon

Earlier this month, Tufts University unveiled their recent overhaul of the school’s indoor track, tennis and multi-use surface inside the 70,000 square-foot Gantcher Center.

The enormous hall and fieldhouse is home to a 200-meter, six lane (8-lane straightaway) indoor oval track complete with two throwing circles, two vaulting setups as well as high jump and horizontal jump pits. At the center of the oval are four indoor tennis courts.

Year-round, Gantcher boasts a myriad of athletic training in a high-traffic fieldhouse.

Sharing one surface poses a challenge in meeting the needs of multi-use space - a common theme for University fieldhouses and one Beynon addresses head-on. The 2016 Tufts upgrade includes a 5 mm overpour of the 16-year-old worn and hardened Mondo floor and track surface with a premium Beynon Sports system for significantly improved performance for all athlete types.

The refurbishment will feature a brand new color scheme, as well. The former brick red color will be replaced with light blue with grey accents to reinforce the team spirit of the facility.

Completed in 1999, Gantcher Center is home to Tufts' indoor track and tennis teams as well as an elite athletic training center. The Center is the largest open indoor facility on campus and the space not only plays host to regular Tufts home track meets, but other special University academic affairs, dances and speaking events throughout the year.

The convocation center, with a seating capacity of 6,000, gives the university the ability to host high-profile conferences with speakers which including former Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, former Presidents Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush as well as Madeleine Albright and Tony Blair.

Over the past 16 years, Gantcher Center has regularly hosted indoor championship meets; including the Women's and Men's Div III New England Championships, the Women's Div I New England Championships and the Women's and Men's ECAC Championships.

The upgrade to the top-of-the-line Beynon surface will ensure Tufts athletics and academics will continue to train, compete and host on the best multi-sport surface available for decades to come.
