Tutors International Propose to Fund the Set Up of a Professional Association of Private Tutors

Leading private tuition organisation, Tutors International, has announced plans to fund the set up of a professional association for private tutors, inviting collaboration from other top-end private tuition providers.

Adam Caller, education consultant and founder of Tutors International, today announced that Tutors International are prepared to entirely fund the set up of a professional association for private tutors until such time that the association can pay back the loan.

Tutors International is a world-leading private tutor agency, placing high-calibre full-time tutors with families around the world. Adam Caller founded the organisation in 1999, and has long been an advocate of self-regulation and a professional regulation in the private tutoring industry.

The Centre for Market Reform of Education (CMRE) earlier this month invited Mr Caller and other industry leaders to participate in a round table to explore the case for a new professional body for private tutors.

Mr Caller said of the meeting, "It was an important step, but it was apparent that there is too much diversity in the types of private tutor to standardise the profession at that level. By that I mean that the majority of private tutors take on assignments in between other jobs. Only a few of the represented companies at the discussion provide tutors for whom private tutoring is their career, and who are committed to developing and attaining high professional standards."

Caller has been pushing for increased professionalism in the industry, a recognised private tutoring qualification, outside of normal teaching qualifications, and political clout: "Private tutoring should be like any other industry, with professional qualifications set by an industry body to carry out background checks, provide benchmarks and monitor standards. Tutors International has decided not to fund CMRE's research, but has instead invited other tutoring companies to consult with us with a view to setting up a professional association."

Other tutoring companies are also keen to be involved in establishing the professional association, which will provide training, support and regulation for professional private tutors, and interested parties are invited to further discussion with Tutors International.
