'Twilight' Writer To Pen 'Highlander' Remake
After taking on vampires in Summit's Twilight Saga, writer Melissa Rosenberg is tackling a different kind of immortal being: Scottish highlanders. The scribe is in negotiations to come on board to work on the studio's remake of Highlander.
Online, February 10, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Hey, everyone
Okay, now we are talking. I have to admit, it does seem like a odd choice to have the writer of a teen romance movie write a remake of an awesome action movie, but read a bit further and you may change your mind:
-------------------------------
Some time has passed since the last "Highlander" remake update. Over a year, in fact - last we'd heard, "Fast Five" director Justin Lin was attached to direct with Neal Moritz producing for Summit Entertainment. "Iron Man" screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway were working on the script.
But as the old "Highlander" adage goes, there can be only one... and as of right now, it's neither Marcum nor Holloway who will be writing the screenplay.
Instead of sticking with the "Iron Man" duo, the "Highlander" screenwriting gig is staying in the Summit family. Heat Vision reports that "Twilight" writer Melissa Rosenberg is in negotiations for the remake, with Moritz and Lin both still attached to the project and Peter Davis also on board as a producer.
Your reaction to the news is going to vary depending on your stance on the "Twilight" franchise and your investment in the "Highlander" series. Diehard "Highlander" fans who aren't wild about "Twilight" probably aren't going to dig this development, while "Twilight" lovers might want to start looking into "Highlander" - attractive immortal swordsmen with impossibly long hair and irresistible Scottish accents? How do you say no to that?
For the "Highlander" faithful who aren't pleased about Rosenberg's involvement, consider that she wrote some truly compelling action sequences in "Eclipse," and we still won't have the full scope of "Twilight" until we've seen both parts of "Breaking Dawn." And don't forget that Rosenberg had a successful job as a writer and producer on "Dexter" before moving onto "Twilight," a show that's about as dark and gritty as it gets. Plus, with Lin still attached as director, you know the "Fast & Furious" director is going to knock the action portion of "Highlander" out of the park.
In other words, let's see. Keep an open mind. The remake has been in development since 2008, so it's entirely possible that we won't see this version come to pass. But if it does, there are certainly less qualified individuals to tackle the material.

Brandon back. Okay, I love Highlander but I have to say that it really is time for a remake and I'm sort of intrigued by this choice of writer. I think she will do a good job and will definitely be one of the
