Online, April 16, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Twitterwidget.net has launched a new twitter widget, targeted for broad use in blogs and other websites. The new widget, aptly titled the TwitterNews Widget, displays all current tweets on any subject of the user's choice in real time.
"We designed this widget with the blogosphere and broad webmaster markets in mind - what kind of widget could be used on every blog and website," said Phil Brainerd, the main developer on the widget project. "It had to be something a webmaster could easily relate to the subject of his choice. Since Twitter provides a search feed, it became the natural solution."
It order to make it easy for anyone to create the widget, Brainerd developed a script which takes a few simple parameters and automatically generates the html code for the user to copy and paste right into their website. "All you need to do is specify the keywords or keyword phrase and the script does the rest," Brainerd said. "Let's say you have a site related to Lady Gaga. You'd simply type 'Lady Gaga' into the keyword phrase box, enter the widget dimensions, and pick the widget color. When you hit the 'Submit' button, the script does the rest."
The widget script can also handle keyword combinations. "If your website is about business, the code can display all the tweets related to business, finance, marketing, and whatever other related keywords you'd like to use," said Brainerd.
The code generation page also provides a preview of the widget, so the user can experiment with different colors. "We recommend that Firefox users download the Colorzilla.com plugin, which makes analyzing website color palettes and color-coordinating your TwitterNews Widget easy," said Brainerd.
Because the script generates simple html code, the widget is versatile enough to be used in any website. "For Wordpress or other blogs, simply paste the code into a sidebar text widget," said Brainerd. "For a generic webpage, you can insert the widget code where ever you want."
Brainerd says the widget was designed for widespread appeal. "Every website is related to a topic or a set of topics. No matter what your website's topic, some people are bound to be tweeting about it. Now you can connect your website with Twitter users who share a set of common interests."
