UC Irvine Offers Breakthrough Career Seminar Series

Industry-Leading Orange County HR Professionals to Address Effective Career Advancement Strategies

The University of California, Irvine Extension, UC Irvine Alumni Association and UCI Career Center will jointly present a seminar about how to create personal competitive advantage in the workplace. The event, the first in the Breakthrough Career Seminar Series, will feature HR industry leaders from Allergan and Toshiba, and is appropriate for individuals at any career stage. The event will be held on Tuesday, May 7, from 8 am to 9 am and is open to the public.

The panel discussion will feature Alice White, vice president of human resources at Allergan, Inc., and Jim Shaw, talent acquisition consultant for Toshiba. The panelists will provide unique perspectives on effective career management strategies and how to implement them for entry, middle and senior level positions. The discussion will be moderated by Christy Cates, senior executive director of UC Irvine's University Advancement Human Resources Department.

"This marks the first in a series of career-focused events aimed at connecting business leaders with professionals who can share insight and strategies for advancing their careers," says Jorge Ancona, assistant vice chancellor of alumni relations at UC Irvine. "We are pleased to partner with UC Irvine Extension and the UCI Career Center to bring this valuable opportunity to our members and the general public."

The seminar will be held at the Newkirk Alumni Center at UC Irvine. Registration is $10 for alumni association members, or $15 for general public, and includes parking and continental breakfast. Networking and registration will open promptly at 7:30 am, with the program beginning promptly at 8 am. For those that cannot attend in person, a live simulcast webinar will be available.
