UCalgary's Haskayne School of Business Partners With Kritik to Enhance Student Learning Through Peer Assessment

Kritik Education Inc. (Kritik) today announces a partnership agreement with The University of Calgary's Haskayne School of Business to deploy Kritik's unique peer assessment platform to professors and their students beginning this fall.

"Kritik and the pedagogy surrounding peer assessment will become part of the new normal post-COVID, far past online/remote class offerings," stated Sherry Weaver, Associate Dean, Undergraduate Programs, University of Calgary. Kritik is the only peer-to-peer solution designed to save professors time and enhance students' higher order and critical thinking skills in online or in-person classes. "One of the biggest challenges that many of us educators face is releasing control; that is always a big stumbling block. However, by empowering students to assess each other, educators are becoming stronger mentors and coaches," concluded Weaver.

One of the problems facing Higher Ed institutions has been a lack of student engagement with online learning. Kritik's peer assessment platform drives student engagement by allowing peers to assess each other's work. Students provide and receive anonymous feedback from their peer evaluators on the quality of their assessments, thus enabling students to adapt and improve their assessment style each time. Not only are students exposed to different viewpoints and perspectives, but providing meaningful and quality assessments of their peers enable deeper learning. Kritik's proprietary algorithm ensures students are grading accurately and fairly; coupled with anonymous peer review, Kritik ensures no bias or favoritism is present on student evaluations.

A growing number of studies have shown that peer assessment and learning by teaching are effective tools in improving student learning and driving student engagement. "The team at Haskayne is setting a new standard in innovative pedagogy by deploying technologies that improve student learning for the better both inside and outside of the classroom," stated Dr. Mohsen Shahini, co-Founder and co-CEO of Kritik.

Kritik's learning platform is deployed by educators at over 70 leading institutions across North America including Princeton and Columbia. This fall, Kritik will welcome over 20,000 students to its platform. "We're thrilled to be working alongside the dedicated and innovative team at Haskayne; our rapid growth showcases the demand from educators and institutions in creating unique & superior learning experiences beyond in-class instruction," stated Ms. Carine Marette, co-Founder and co-CEO of Kritik.
