According to a survey from British insurance company Allianz, About one in four in the UK say they regularly use at least one appliance in their home that is more than 25 years old. Allianz is a German multinational financial services company headquartered in Munich, Germany. http://www.connectedaustralia.com/ Its core business and focus is insurance. As of 2010, it was the world's 12th-largest financial services group and 23rd-largest company according to a composite measure by Forbes magazine.

Allianz has more than 60 million customers worldwide and its services include property and casualty insurance, life and health insurance and asset management. The survey of 3,000 people by insurer Allianz Your Cover found that the top five electrical appliances most likely to be in use after 25 years are:

* food mixers
* ovens
* refrigerators
* irons
* washing Machines

According to survey said, "I think people should take more care of the things they have. My wife and I bought a Super SER fridge shortly after we were married in 1971 and our oven was purchased many years ago too. One of the respondent said "Taking care of things comes naturally to me and I believe that people should take more care of what they have. When I buy products I buy for the long term and make sure items last by cleaning and storing them appropriately. I also choose wisely by researching the products and finding the right ones for me".

"I still have a hand me down Russell Hobbs Kettle - I remember my grandma bought it for my mum. To this day I still have it in my kitchen but sadly my grandma passed away but my mum told me the kettle would remain in the family for generations and it has and I wouldn't part with it!" respondent said.

Jon Lott, head of direct, Allianz Your Cover ""In the current economic climate it is great to see so many people are taking care of their property".

"As an insurer this is something we encourage people to do on a day-to-day basis so it's excellent to see such a positive response" he said.http://www.connectedaustralia.com/ He said in a statement that "When keeping hold of electrical appliances for a long time, it is important for safety checks to be carried out every so often to identify any faults and avoid potential risks." Allianz owns British insurance company Cornhill Insurance plc, subsequently renamed Allianz Cornhill Insurance plc. The company did not, however, take into account the higher cost to use older appliances. Older refrigerators, in particular, cost far more to power than new, much more energy efficient appliance models.
