Ultimate Makeovers Hosts Reveal Party and JAFCO Holiday Toy Drive

Online, December 14, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Ultimate Makeovers is similar to the "Extreme Makeovers" television show (although it's not a TV show), but its emphasis is on transforming lives in the local community. Every year the Ultimate Makeovers Team performs a pro-bono makeover for a deserving member of the community. Components of the makeover may include plastic surgery, laser eye surgery, cosmetic dentistry, and personal training.

The Ultimate Makeovers Reveal Party will be held at Contour Day Spa in Plantation, FL, where the three candidates will show off the results of their procedures and their completed looks. Candidates will receive professional hair and makeup services by Contour Day Spa and will enjoy a professional photo shoot - and will be presented with gifts. Professional Stylist Anne Morrissey, of Anne Morrissey Style Consulting will be on hand to help wardrobe the ladies. The event, which will be documented by CBS Miami and other media, will also collect holiday gift donations for JAFCO (Jewish Adoption and Foster Care Options) children. Any new, unwrapped gifts, gift cards, or checks will be accepted.

The makeover candidates were selected based on several factors. They had to be residents of Broward, Palm Beach, or Miami-Dade County; Legal US citizens; Living at the 200% or below the Federal Poverty Level; Uninsured or underinsured (meaning health insurance but no dental insurance, or vice versa); and in good health, between the ages of 21-65 years old.

The team conducted background checks on the candidates as well as detailed physical exams by an internal medicine doctor and psychological evaluations from a licensed psychologist.

Applicants submitted essays about why they wanted the Ultimate Makeovers services. All doctors and panel members read the essays and voted on the candidates. Finalists were interviewed in person prior to final selection. The makeover recipients of 2011 are:

Tanya J. had successful ASA Laser Eye Surgery on September 1st performed by Dr. Randy Burks of The Center for LASIK in Margate, FL. Tanya recently lost her job and is pursuing a career as a model so she can be an inspiration for her children.

Madai P. had successful tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) surgery performed on October 1st by plastic surgeon Dr. David Levens and anesthesiologist Dr. Jonathan Aarons at The Coral Springs Surgical Center located in Coral Springs, FL. Madai had excess weight following the birth of her three children. The tummy tuck gave her amazing results and made her feel more confident than ever. The procedure gave her the inspiration to look for a new career.

Diana L. is receiving cosmetic dentistry, periodontal and endodontic care, and wrinkle treatments. She first received a root canal from Dr. Gretchen Heinsen of H&K Endo located in Plantation, FL. She then had periodontal surgery performed by Dr. Nicholas DeTure of McCawley-DeTure Center for Laser Periodontics and Implants in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Then, Dr. Charles Nottingham, of Smile South Florida Cosmetic Dentistry in Tamarac, FL, reconstructed Diana's smile using porcelain crowns. Diana also had facial fillers and botox to smooth out her wrinkles, creating a more youthful appearance. Plastic surgeon Dr. David Levens provided this work.

Diana has a particularly interesting story. She did not apply to be an Ultimate Makeovers candidate; instead, her daughter, Jennifer, wrote an essay explaining why her mother should be selected. Diana is a recent lung and brain cancer survivor and was just given permission to travel since completing a heavy schedule of chemotherapy. Below is part of the letter Jennifer wrote about her mother:

[" My mother is such a wonderful loving person. She does everything for everyone and always puts herself last. For the last year and a half now she has been fighting lung cancer which we hope will be done with at this point. Even with cancer, she has been so positive and still always looking out for other people. At the hospital everyone knows her, and she is always trying to give everyone there they same hope she has. My mom is a fighter and will do anything to fight her way through this to be here with me and my daughter. And she deserves to feel and look beautiful as she is inside and out. I just want to give my mother something to feel good about and a new start in life. She is still so young and I want her to enjoy it and I know with some help it will only get better. She really is everything in my life. And though she can't give me all the things she wishes she could, having her in my life is everything and more. She is wonderful and if you get the chance to meet or talk to her, you will see the great person she is."]

The Ultimate Makeovers Team has three primary goals: raise money for charity, educate the community about health procedures to enhance life, and provide resources to help members of the community locate top doctors and health care practitioners.
