Unemployed Man's Obsession Ignited Over a Tech Blog Article, Looks to Change the Wine Industry.

In 2008, Clyde Snodgrass, like many people in the finance industry, found himself at a crossroads. The American economy was on the brink of collapse and he was unsure what was next. Having spent 10 years chasing what he thought was his dream left him questioning everything. He found himself newly unemployed and sitting at Starbucks browsing Help wanted ads. While taking a break and checking out his favorite tech blogs, he came across a paper on Engadget that would change his life forever.

The paper in question was written by Xin An Zeng from the College of Light Industry in China. This paper went on to explain that applying an AC electric field to wine, improved the wine’s taste and mouth feel. Giving the wine a more matured “aged” taste that’s similar to that of more expensive bottles. Clyde’s new found obsession would have him build 10 different prototypes and purchase way too many bottles of wine. Many nights were spent having friends and total strangers over to taste and test the effects of his new invention. Of course nobody minded this, I mean who doesn’t like free wine? All of this led to the creation affectionately known as ‘The Volt’.

We are happy to bring a first of its kind consumer device to market. It will enable individuals to improve their wine drinking experience without any expertise or advanced knowledge of wines. Historically, the wine industry has proceeded with caution toward improvements to one of the world's most protected and traditional fields. FARADAY has plans to apply this technology for use with commercial applications. We look forward to the challenge to enhance the way the world enjoys wine.

The Volt and his company Faraday Inc., were inspired by one of the world’s foremost authorities on electrochemical reactions, Michael Faraday. The Volt operates by applying a safe electric field to younger wines. By applying a specific voltage and frequency of current via this field to a bottle of wine, Volt is able to alter the chemical composition of the wine. This change mimics the aging process and improves the taste, aroma and mouth feel.

All the research and testing of the Volt has been completed. Everything up to this point has been paid for personally. Not being able to gauge interest or cover production cost out of pocket, production fund raising has begun via a new Kickstarter campaign.
