University Of Liverpool Invites Applications From Post Graduate Indian Students For ARM Scholarship Worth £6,200

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics at the University of Liverpool (UK) has invited applications for a prestigious scholarship which includes a four month paid internship at a world-leading technology company in Cambridge.

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics at the University of Liverpool (UK) has invited applications for a prestigious scholarship which includes a four month paid internship at a world-leading technology company in Cambridge. The ARM Scholarship is exclusive to postgraduate students in India who have been offered a place for 2011/12 session on one of the University's Masters Degree programmes in Microelectronic Systems or Microelectronic Systems and Telecommunications.

ARM Ltd, a company that specialises in the design of technology at the heart of advanced digital products, has supported students from India studying on postgraduate courses at Liverpool since 2005. The team is now looking for a new student to join their research group in Cambridge as part of their studies at the University. The company also has offices in Bangalore, as well as a base in several European countries, North America and East Asia.

The ARM scholarship is an award of £6,200 and the student who qualifies will also be given a Regional Award of £1,000 from the University. The student will complete their Masters project as a paid intern at ARM Cambridge. Previous ARM scholars at the University have gone on to secure permanent jobs at the company and others are now working at NVIDIA, a graphics hardware company in the US, and Aptina, a specialist in imaging technology, based in the UK.

To be eligible for the scholarship, the candidate must have an offer for the MSc (Eng) Microelectronic Systems or MSc (Eng) Microelectronic Systems and Telecommunications at the University of Liverpool. Moreover, the candidate must also have a first class BE, ME, BTech or MTech degree in a subject related to Electronic Engineering or a Computer Science/Engineering degree where hardware electives have been taken. Successful ARM scholarship candidates are preferred to have a keen and demonstrable interest in research, computer architecture, parallel programming, security, compilers, operating systems, C and assembly languages, software virtual machines, algorithms and data structures. Another requirement is experience and ability with prototyping/scripting languages, modifying and porting large software systems (OSs, compilers, simulators), parallel and SIMD programming, benchmarking and analysis. Good English language skills (minimum IELTS 6.5/TOEFL 230+ER 4.0 or 70% in English at Standard XII from central or metro state boards) are must. Relevant work experience in embedded systems, system on chip or IC design would also be evaluated.
