Reading Horizons will be hosting a Webinar by education professional Elderine Wyrick on February 18, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time. The Webinar is free, and registration is open to anyone.

The subject of the Webinar is: "Teach the Students - Not Just the Curriculum." To summarize her topic, Wyrick explained: "Many bright, gifted students experience failure when the curriculum is emphasized more than the students are. ... The teacher needs to use the curriculum as a guide and (to) be ready to expand or condense the material according to the needs of the students. Every student is important, and no student is dispensable. Each person has valuable potential to offer to society. ... Teachers who expect certain students to fail limit their opportunities to find creative solutions to unique learning situations. ... This seminar explains how to address multiple learning difficulties, using specific teaching techniques and curriculum modifications. It is applicable to all teachers in any school setting, including home school." Anyone can register for this free Webinar online at: http://www.readinghorizons.com/community/webinars/index.aspx.

Elderine Wyrick earned her master's degree from Oxford Graduate School in family life education and is currently pursuing a social research doctoral degree in sociological integration of religion and society. For the past 30 years, she has worked at four different Christian schools as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and administrator. In 1988, she founded the Master's Academy, a specialized school for children with dyslexia and ADHD. Wyrick conducts seminars for churches, civic and professional groups, adult-literacy programs, home school associations, and in-service training for teachers in Christian schools in Texas and in Guadalajara, Mexico.
