Urban Stone to Solve Poverty and Prison Problem with Jobs and Ownership in Green Company

With aims to lift the bottom 10% from poverty and prison, Urban Stone has built an innovative business model that gives meaningful jobs with profit sharing and company ownership to inner city jobless and formerly incarcerated.

“Jobs that economically empower lives and families are needed to solve our inner city crisis.” states social entrepreneur and founder of Urban Stone, Mary Cunningham. “Handouts and low wage jobs have proven ineffective and burden a struggling middle class with an unsustainable $875B tax bill. It’s a complex problem I am dedicating my life to solve.” she states.

Launching in New York with national expansion plans, Urban Stone recycles part of the 500 billion pounds of stone construction waste currently polluting landfills and manufactures valuable green building products.

"We are building momentum in gaining support from industry leaders who are championing our cause by using their power and influence to help us succeed."

“There is untapped talent in the inner city that is overlooked. Barriers like criminal records, lack of work experience and skills, keep people in poverty and prison.” Cunningham explains.

Urban Stone addresses these barriers by partnering with innovative non-profits that provide training for people who want an opportunity to empower their lives. WorldofMoney.org has been chosen to provide financial literacy and DefyVentures.org will provide leadership and entrepreneurial training.

“We are building momentum in gaining support from industry leaders who are championing our cause by using their power and influence to help us succeed.” states Cunningham.

An example being McKissack & McKissack, a prestigious design and construction firm involved the $17B Columbia University expansion. “I am very excited to partner with Urban Stone. Given the massiveness and effectiveness of (the business model), I couldn’t help but want to be a part of it.” states CEO, Cheryl McKissack. “It is important that everybody has a fair shot at bettering themselves.” she explains.
