USAC/MD Golf Classic Breaks Records For Survivor Fund

Online, April 29, 2014 (Newswire.com) - The Survivor Fund was once again the big winner of the 7th Annual USAC/MD Charity Golf Classic. Due to the generosity of the sponsors, players and those who purchased raffle tickets and auction items, USAC/MD raised a record-shattering $14,000 for the Survivor Fund. The tournament also had a record number of players, 87. "I think we also broke a record for the best weather we've ever had" according to Matthew Miller, the tournament chairman.

The tournament was held on April 10th at Celebration Golf Club in the city of Celebration, FL. Golfers of every skill level enjoyed the 4 person scramble that included opportunities to win prizes on each of the par 3s and for the longest drive. Raffle tickets and a post-tournament auction helped raise the final amount to $14,000. Several lucky golfers walked away with clubs, golf balls and apparel from the pro shop.

Miller Industries, again the anchor sponsor, put up a tow truck for anyone to win who made a hole-in-one on the 3rd hole, a 159 yard par 3.

United Road Towing sponsored the $5,000 putting contest which was won by Chris Scanlon of A W Direct, who did not sink the 60 foot putt to win the grand prize, but still walked away with $500.

Kelly Ingersoll of IAA qualified for the million dollar shot by hitting his tee shot 6 feet 8 inches from the 16th hole, a 174 yard par 3. His 165 yard attempt to win the $1,000,000 landed 3 feet from the hole and rolled past the pin, stopping only 16 feet away. The million dollar shootout was sponsored by A W Direct.

"We're very proud of how our industry gets behind this event and supports such a worthwhile cause", said Matthew Miller, Regional Manager of USAC/MD. Over 60 road service professionals are killed each year assisting stranded motorists on the side of busy roadways. The Survivor Fund assists the families of those who lose their lives while performing these critical services.

"We are committed to making the roads safer for our service provider network through training, education and certification programs throughout the industry", said Staley Cash, Executive Vice President of USAC/MD, who presented the check to Jeffrey Godwin, the current chairman of the Survivor Fund and Chief Operating Officer at towPartners.
