Created by a team of students at the University of California San Diego, ionboard offers electric skateboards with high-end performance abilities for under $500. The Kickstarter launch for ionboard starts Nov. 9 (https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/1728725377).

Along with co-founders Kate Xu, Chris Kowynia, and Steve Warburton, founders Dongpeng Li and Jack Craig set out to understand why electric longboards are so expensive. After researching technology such as motors and lithium-ion batteries, the ionboard team learned that prices for electric skateboards like Boosted Board are higher than they need to be. "We believe that lack of competition has kept prices high," says Jack Craig. "Making sure we didn't sacrifice any abilities like smooth acceleration and breaking, long range, or high speeds we created two boards that can outpace competitors for a much lower price."

Our team is prepared to get customers their boards in time for the holidays.

The base model, ionboard, is fast and reliable with a top speed of 22 miles per hour, and a battery capacity that allows for 12-miles of range. The board can carry riders up a 20 percent grade, making it great for going up hills, and carrying the board is simple with an integrated handle. Inspired by classic longboards, the maple and bamboo deck creates a smooth riding experience.

People who want a little extra firepower will love ionboard X. This model pushes every technical boundary with a glistening top speed of 25 miles per hour, and an incredible 15-mile range. ionboard X is designed to meet the most elite level needs of anyone and everyone. Inspired by the downhill decks of longboarding race teams, ionboard X features a nine-ply Canadian maple deck. Performance never looked so attractive at the unprecedented low price of $499.

ionboard and ionboard X are far more affordable than the market leader, Boosted Board, which retails for $1499. With capabilities that both match and surpass the Boosted Board, ionboard seeks to disrupt the electric longboard industry by offering great performance at an unbeatable price. ionboard has also announced a program that allows customers to make their own, one-of-a-kind board by customizing their grip tape. Working in collaboration with a team of artists, ionboard has made a stunning array of preset designs, however, users can also upload their own photos to create an entirely unique board. This custom grip tape service is available for only $39.

“Our team is prepared to get customers their boards in time for the holidays,” says Dongpeng Li, co-founder of ionboard. Both ionboard and ionboard X will become available through a pre-order based Kickstarter campaign. To build awareness about their launch ionboard has officially introduced its Online Referral Program – which offers users a way to receive a discount or even completely pay off their first ionboard by referring people they know to the ionboard website.

On Nov. 9, the ionboard Kickstarter will launch, bringing the first line of affordable premium electric longboards to the market. Offering high-level performance and unique customizability, ionboard plans to enable the masses to experience fun electric travel for $399. ionboard is available for pre-order at https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/1728725377.
