Use of Electronic Cigarettes Continues to Rise States Chemist Direct
United Kingdom, July 15, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Although many regulations have already been set to ban the use of electronic cigarettes in certain establishments in the UK the World Health Organisation have been urged not to enforce regulations on the devices as they are improving the success rate of people cutting out conventional tobacco cigarettes and thus saving lives.
Electronic cigarettes are a battery powered device that produce vapour instead of smoke and generally use a heating element known as an atomiser to vaporise the liquid in the attached cartridges. They usually contain a mixture of propylene glycol, vegetable glycerine, nicotine, and flavourings and tend to mimic normal tobacco cigarettes.
Electronic cigarettes have been said to have fewer toxic effects than traditional cigarettes, making them a healthier option and a great aid in smoking cessation. Smokers are getting the same experience as smoking with the similar shapes of e-cigs which have been designed to give them a realistic experience and the actions they crave. Also with such a huge range of products now on the market including variations of flavours strengths and styles there seems to be something to suit every smoker.
E cigarettes have been included for the first time in official NHS guidance in Scotland aimed to help smokers cut down and kick the habit. NHS Scotland quoted ‘users should not be told to stop if there is a risk they will return to tobacco.’ With users being turned away in the past or advised against using these battery powered devices it seems that in 2013 attempts to quit smoking using NHS services was down by 13% which is most likely related to the use of e-cigarette devices.
The global health advisor is preparing to publish recommendations about e-cigarettes to governments later on this year about how e cigarette products are one of ‘the most significant health innovations of the 21st Century - perhaps saving hundreds of millions of lives.’ And with findings showing people trying to quit smoking had an improved success rate of 60% with e cigs compared with patches or gum, support for using the device to quit and cut down is sure to grow.
