Online, September 3, 2012 (Newswire.com) - In keeping with its aim to provide industry-focused end-to-end learning and skill building solutions, Usha Martin Academy, Patna organised a visit to the Usha Martin Ltd. (UML) plant for a group of 12 students. The plant manufactures industrial wire ropes at Tatisilwai, Ranchi. The visit took place on the 21st of July under the guidance of the faculty and staff, which included Prof. Amlan Das, Associate Dean; Prof. Vineet Kr. Tiwari, Faculty Member; Prof. Shibya Swaroop, Faculty Member; Prof. Pallabi Mazumdar, Faculty Member and Mr. Satyendra Kumar, Marketing Executive.
The group reached the UML plant at 10am and met with a very warm welcome. The tour began with an introduction to the UML business through a movie clip and PowerPoint presentation. This was followed by a detailed round of the plant, covering all the sections. The group was familiarised with the mechanism of manufacturing steel wire ropes from the raw materials. They covered several processes in the plant including ropery, quality control and dispatch. "I couldn't have imagined the size of a manufacturing plant if I hadn't gone on this trip! Supply Chain Management is a complex function and this trip has definitely made me aware of how various departments need to come together seamlessly for an organisation to be efficient," was the feedback from Shruti Yadav in the group.
The students were also given an overview of HR management strategy, security management and production management. They were encouraged to have discussions with the guides as well as accompanying faculty. Sanjay Kumar, another student, commented, "I am impressed with the smooth functioning of so many people and machines! I can see industrial relations at work here and understand several management concepts that were discussed in the classes. Talking to the employees has rounded off industry learning for me."
The visit came to a satisfying conclusion in the afternoon. UML academy trains students with the aim of impacting business performance through enhanced employee productivity and nurturing globally competent professionals. Industrial trips like these go a long way in helping UML meet its objectives.
