Using the Inventory of Depressive Symptoms Scales (IDS-C and IDS-SR) in Clinical Research, New Webinar Hosted by Xtalks
TORONTO, May 24, 2018 (Newswire.com) - Join our featured speakers for a live session on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at 10 a.m. EDT (3 p.m. BST/UK) to learn about using the Inventory of Depressive Symptoms (IDS) questionnaire in clinical research/practice to assess the severity of depressive symptoms.
Attend this webinar to:
- Learn the rationale and methods used in developing the IDS in both clinician-rated (IDS-C) and patient self-reported (IDS-SR) formats
- Get insights on the psychometric features of the IDS instrument and how it compares to other commonly used clinician-rated scales
The IDS was developed to make improvements on the available clinician and patient ratings by providing equivalent weightings for each symptom item; providing clearly stated anchors that estimate the frequency and severity of symptoms; including all DSM-V criterion items required to diagnose a major depressive episode; and providing matched clinician and patient ratings.
Dr. A. John Rush, the author of the health research questionnaire, will provide a brief description of the IDS and how the instrument can be used in clinical research/practice to assess depressive symptom severity. Resulting assessments can be used to screen for depression, although they have been used predominantly as measures of symptom severity. He will also review both the rationale and methods entailed in developing the Inventory of Depressive Symptoms (IDS) in both clinician-rated (IDS-C) and self-reported (IDS-SR) formats. Psychometric features of the both the IDS-C and IDS-SR will be presented. These scales are compared to the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HRS-D) in the detection of symptom change in patients with major depressive or bipolar disorder. The face validity and established psychometric features of the IDS-C and IDS-SR indicate that either may be useful in detecting symptom change, as well as in detecting residual symptoms in depressed patients.
