USTA Atlanta Makes Its Mark in the Community at Truist Park
USTA Atlanta, a non-profit with the goal of growing tennis on a local level, engages with the community, hosting free tennis activities for children and parents at Truist Park, developing new playing opportunities in the Atlanta area, and partnering with local tennis foundations.
ATLANTA, September 9, 2021 (Newswire.com) - USTA Atlanta is the "neighborhood" branch of the United States Tennis Association and oversees the largest USTA Adult League and Junior Team Tennis programs in the country. With a clear focus on community enrichment through tennis, USTA Atlanta hosts programs such as Tuesday Tennis on the Turf at Truist Park.
Held just outside of the stadium where the Atlanta Braves play, this free program is offered to children ages 4-10 and encourages positive tennis experiences through interactive games. The focus is on fun over form while kids and parents hit with foam balls and kid-sized rackets on mini tennis courts.
USTA Atlanta was also present at this year's Truist Atlanta Open, a professional tennis tournament held in Atlantic Station, holding down the Family Zone court. Red Hare Brewing Co. Tennis League players were able to compete in an adult foam ball tournament on-site and some of USTA Atlanta's Singles Ladder participants were able to play a few fun sets as well. Unique events like these are how USTA Atlanta league players form lasting memories with others in the tennis community.
On the charitable side, USTA Atlanta is dedicated to giving back to the community and establishing partnerships with other organizations that are focused on doing the same. They partnered with Academy Sports & Outdoors to offer a shopping spree to the Atlanta Youth Tennis and Education Foundation (AYTEF) kids during the week of the Truist Atlanta Open. Each child received a $150 gift card to buy tennis shoes and back-to-school items.
In addition, USTA Atlanta was the proud headline sponsor of the Katrina Adams Book Signing Event at Sugar Creek Tennis Center in August. Katrina Adams is the most recent past president of the United States Tennis Association and a former professional tennis player.
If you're interested in hitting the courts and are unsure about which league to join, consider joining the USTA Atlanta Singles Ladder. This ladder heavily stresses flexibility as all players are able to issue challenge matches for participants within their division to accept if they choose. There's no pressure to play a certain number of matches and no cap on how many matches one can play. Champs and Finalists win Tennis Warehouse gift cards and points are accrued based on the number of matches played as well as number of matches won. It's a unique way to get out on the court and it fills a void for the singles players in Atlanta who have been wanting more.
