Vestrum Health Announces Launch of Nation's First Retina Specialty Patient Database
Online, September 30, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Vestrum Health, a healthcare data company, announced today the launch of the Vestrum Retina Research Database. Through the Retina Research Database, Vestrum Health provides retina specialists with the opportunity to unlock the full value of their Electronic Health Record (EHR) data by providing benefits including a passive revenue stream as well as analytic and research capabilities.
"Historically, the healthcare data industry has capitalized on physician-generated information through the sale of prescription data, claims data, and EHR data. For the first time, physicians have the opportunity to obtain a royalty payment when their clinical data is sold," said David F. Williams, MD, MBA, co-founder of Vestrum Health.
The Vestrum Health platform can interface with any EHR software and there are no fees for physician participation. EHR data from participating retina specialists is securely uploaded to Vestrum Health servers, where it is converted into a standardized format by Vestrum's proprietary technology. It is then de-identified and aggregated with data from other practices. Utilizing a patent-pending process, Vestrum Health provides physicians with the ability to control how their data is utilized, including options for commercialization, benchmarking, and research.
For physicians wishing to have their EHR data commercialized, Vestrum Health actively markets and sells their de-identified and aggregated data to industry and pays physicians a royalty.
