Viggo Mortensen Plays Sigmund Freud

Online, November 30, 2011 (Newswire.com) - 'A Dangerous Method' with its rounds completed at Venice, Toronto and Telluride has bagged mixed views. While for few it is indeed a brainy input, for others it has a strict tone and is too well mannered. But others seemingly approve the bit that Viggo Mortensen has in this film. He plays Sigmund Freud.

Unlike in David Cronenberg's - A History of Violence and Eastern Promises, where Mortensen talks only when he is asked to; a lot has changed in the third flick - A Dangerous Method, where he chats too much yet has a positive outcome. Mortensen is a mentor to Carl Jung played by Michael Fassbender, and spoke to Vulture recently discussing how greatly he has been transformed into Sigmund Freud. He hopes that Cronenberg will finally have some Oscars to take back home.

Mortensen added on his discoveries that he made pertaining to Freud. He said, "When you start to read about him and learn about him," said the actor, "you learn that at the age that I play him, early fifties, he was very robust and healthy, and described as being magnetic and handsome and personable. Socially engaging, a great conversationalist with a piercing gaze, who had a melodious strong voice, and was eloquent and humorous, you know?"

Mortensen laments the lack of attention the Oscar jury has had in the past on the director, and this time being given the desired attention he says, "I'm glad you're writing about it. With David's movies, sometimes people don't see it until it's on DVD, and then they say, "Wow, that had to have been one of the best movies of last year." No matter how well-received critically they are at the time of release, they tend to become sort of invisible, I think. It's astounding, after making three movies with him - not to mention all the other great movies he did before those three - that David's never been nominated for an Oscar for directing. It's incredible. So I'm glad you're giving it attention."
