VinAudit.com Challenges CARFAX, Offering Vehicle History At A Fraction Of Traditional Costs.
Is $34.99 too much for a vehicle history report? VinAudit.com's founder David Wu thinks vehicle history should be free, challenging industry giant CARFAX with a lightweight vehicle report service.
Online, March 14, 2012 (Newswire.com) - VinAudit.com launches, offering instant vehicle history reports at a fraction of the cost for a report from CARFAX. "I felt ripped off when I paid $35 for a car history check. Data on vehicle history should really be free", explains VinAudit.com Founder and ex-Googler David Wu, "That's right, public and open like the rest of the Internet. We're not there yet, but VinAudit.com aims to make vehicle history as public and as affordable as possible."
Through a partnership with the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS), VinAudit.com now offers public access to data in a national database with vehicle records from state DMVs, insurance carriers, and salvage yards. This is the same database used by state DMVs and law enforcement agencies to combat car theft in the United States. Users can now use VinAudit.com to instantly query on all available records associated with a particular Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
People in the process of buying a used car can use VinAudit.com's website to generate a Vehicle History Report that includes title registration records, junk/salvage records, insurance records, odometer history, and checks for over 60 different types of title brands. The web-based report can be printed out, forwarded to an email, or downloaded as a PDF.
In addition to instant vehicle history reports, VinAudit.com also offers the first publicly documented Application Programming Interface (API) for access to raw vehicle history data over the Internet. This will allow companies in the automotive industry to integrate vehicle history into their applications, as well as making vehicle history reports available to resellers, at the lowest cost available in the market.
Wu confirms, "Yes, checking the vehicle's history before purchasing a used car is a great investment. But if you're finding it not affordable enough or easy enough, let us know; we'll probably agree."
