Viral Video Campaign Enhances Customer Experience on Now That's Lingerie

Now That's Lingerie's (NTL) Holiday Countdown uses a viral video campaign to promote their vlog-based flash deal event, revealing one way online retailers are adapting to their audience's' increasing demand for online video content.

Online lingerie retailer Now That's Lingerie (NTL) launched a viral video campaign today as part of their Holiday Countdown, a vlog-based event set to offer customers a new deal almost daily until December 24th, 2012. NTL's focus on video-laden content demonstrates how companies are adapting to their audience's increased demand and seeming preference for watching online videos.

"We want to offer our loyal and potential customers alike a diverse mix of vlogs, blogs and photos on our social media, to give them more options on how they want to experience our products and services," says Lisa Segal, NTL's Vice-President of PR and Marketing. The company has taken measures to reach customers who are active on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest, "whether they're looking for shopping deals or just want to be entertained." With more people searching for news and bargains on social media, competing for their attention is paramount, and providing videos is a modern approach to having a virtual salesperson interact with NTL's audience.

NTL's Holiday Countdown will showcase a new vlog almost daily on their website and YouTube channel, with flash deals on different featured items. With growing numbers of people shopping and watching online videos, especially from their wireless devices, the trend of making videos is one NTL expects will continue into 2013. "Now more than ever, people are using their smartphones and tablets to shop and connect with us. We're definitely planning to up the ante on our video and social media content in the new year," affirms Lisa.

A recent report from eMarketer forecasts that among Internet users in the United States next year, approximately 67% will be social network users (up 4.1% from 2012), and 73% will view online video (up 5.6%); a projected 51.5% of smartphone users will watch videos from their phones (up 21.8%). In a separate report from Monetate, smartphones and tablets accounted for 18.4% of total e-commerce traffic in the third quarter of 2012, up 7.7% from the same period last year.
