Virtual Gateway labs announces their family of virtual broadband solutions for municipal broadband networks.   The VGL solution brings the benefits of The Cloud, (Virtualization, Automation, Open Source et al) to the broadband edge.  By extending SDN and virtualization to the broadband edge, network operators gain new end-to-end flexibilities, efficiencies and simplicities.   The CPE family includes both ONT’s and Residential Gateways.  Both are powered by the Intel™ Atom processors and Open Source Linux and provide the network operator the benefit of virtualization at the premise edge. The platforms include virtual machines which can be used internally for enhanced network operations and new services and provided on a wholesale basis to service providers.

“Today, access networks are bandwidth constrained. With bandwidth so scarce, people must factor in the availability and quality of bandwidth in daily decisions. With access networks, such as Point-to-point Active Ethernet and NG PON 2, each location will have access to massive amounts of affordable bandwidth,” said Mr. Aman Sehgal, GM and Vice President of Virtual Gateway labs (VGL).

The Virtual ONTs are being deployed today in a number of cities in the U.S.A. as part of a dynamic open access network.  VGL is  demonstrating their community broadband solution at the SmartGigabit, LA, CA.

About VGL:

VGL was formed in 2015 with a key focus on the Software Defined Networks and Virtualization. Virtual Gateway Labs is a Delaware Corp in San Jose, California.  The main focus of the VGL platform is open source in the carrier space.  Since its founding in Q2 of 2015, Virtual Gateway Labs has successfully developed a first generation Virtual Broadband Gateway (VBG) and is in the process of expanding the VBG platform for enterprise and multi-tenant capabilities.
