Voices for Humanity is Redefining 'Cool' to Get Kids Off Drugs With Ingrida Lingyte

VOICES FOR HUMANITY announces a new episode featuring the work of anti-drug activist Ingrida Lingyte.

Scientology Network’s VOICES FOR HUMANITY, the weekly series presenting heroic change-makers from a variety of faiths, cultures and nations, working to uplift their communities, announces a new episode featuring the work of anti-drug activist Ingrida Lingyte.

VOICES FOR HUMANITY airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Scientology Network.

If Colombia gained ground in its war on drugs by breaking up the cartels, it lost its battle to stop drug abuse amongst its own people. But fighting abuse is Ingrida Lingyte, an anti-drug activist whose work educating youth on the dangers of drugs before they get hooked, is so impactful it is being implemented throughout the country.

ABOUT INGRIDA LINGYTE

Lithuanian-born, Ingrida Lingyte’s life was changed forever when her mother was killed and her sister paralyzed in an accident caused by a drunk driver. Some years later, on a visit to Colombia, she fell in love with that country and made it her home. But she soon learned just how pervasive the drug culture was—70 percent of the youth believed that marijuana was not dangerous and that using drugs was cool. Knowing firsthand the devastation substance abuse causes, Ingrida made it her mission to reach kids with the real dangers of drugs with the Truth About Drugs educational program.

Her campaign to combat Colombia’s drug culture and the suffering caused to individuals, families and the society at large drew attention from the nation’s schools, media and government institutions. Through her work, Ingrida and her team have reached one-fifth of the population of Colombia with the Truth About Drugs. Her campaign is also credited with influencing the decision to tighten drug laws with the objective of discouraging their use.
