As with communities across the nation, many in the Tampa Bay Area are at a loss about how to help family or friends resolve the complex problems they face. Most people today know and wish they could do something effective for someone who is caught in a dead-end job they hate, someone with a drug or alcohol problem, or a family on the verge of divorce.

“We recognize that many people would gladly help their neighbors in times of need but just don’t know how,” says Glendy Goodsell, Executive Director of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers of Florida.

Opened in July 2015 to provide help with these and many other personal and family problems, the Clearwater Scientology Volunteer Minister Center is now extending a service to those who would like to help if they knew how: Biweekly “How to Help” seminars on Tuesdays and Sundays evenings.

Each seminar will train those attending on practical tools contained in the Volunteer Ministers Handbook based on technology developed by L. Ron Hubbard. This includes such subjects as overcoming drug abuse, raising happy and self-reliant children, salvaging marriages, assisting those who are ill or injured and resolving workplace difficulties.

“With an understanding of these topics, a person can work with their families, neighbors, friends and business contacts to resolve everyday life problems,” says Goodsell.

The new downtown home of the Church's Volunteer Ministers at 101N. Fort Harrison Avenue, Clearwater, is part of a global movement active in 120 nations. Scientologists volunteer more than 200,000 hours a year in the Tampa Bay area, living by the Volunteer Ministers motto that no matter the challenge, “Something can be done about it.” With its public information center, conference room and seminar rooms, the center welcomes anyone wishing to receive or give help. The center offers free courses covering in each of the 19 chapters of the Volunteer Ministers Handbook.
