VUV Analytics™ Inc. Announces Today That Environment and Climate Change Canada Approved ASTM D8071 as an Alternate to CAN/CGSB 3.0 No. 14.3
AUSTIN, Texas, June 16, 2020 (Newswire.com) - VUV Analytics, Inc. announces that Environment and Climate Change Canada, which is the Canadian counterpart to the EPA, has determined that ASTM D8071-19, “Standard Test Method for Determination of Hydrocarbon Group Types and Select Hydrocarbon and Oxygenate Compounds in Automotive Spark-Ignition Engine Fuel Using Gas Chromatography with Vacuum Ultraviolet Absorption Spectroscopy Detection (GC-VUV)” is a suitable alternative to CAN/CGSB 3.0 No. 14.3. ASTM D8071 is now cited in the Canadian Benzene in Gasoline Regulations.
This accomplishment comes after a rigorous statistical study with InnoTech Alberta. The ASTM D6708 study required multiple volunteer labs to run common gasoline samples by ASTM D8071 to compare to CGSB 14.3. The regulatory properties of aromatics, olefins, benzene and ethanol in Canadian Fuels were assessed.
USA refiners are using ASTM D8071 for EPA regulatory compliance. The addition of this test method to Canadian regulations will benefit refining and biofuel industries by facilitating international trade. The next step is to ballot ASTM D8071 into the Canadian gasoline specifications.
“This is a significant milestone for me and VUV Analytics, as we are now cited internationally as a regulated method,” said Dan Wispinski, Standard Methods Development Manager for VUV Analytics. “I began my career in the fuel refining system in Canada and we really only had one option – Detailed Hydrocarbon Analysis for gasoline certification. Now ASTM D8071 will save significant manpower and resources over CGSB 14.3 method – and it is a more precise technique,” proclaimed Mr. Wispinski.
ASTM D8071 is performed on the VUV Analyzer™ Platform for Fuels. This platform is multi-functional, as it can analyze gasoline, jet fuel and diesel fuel with no changes in hardware or set up.
