HOUSTON, TX - Pet owners across the country frequently are faced with difficult decisions when the dogs they love bark so incessantly that owners are driven to distraction or threatened with eviction from their houses and apartments. Now, thanks to the introduction of the JetCare® cold spray anti-bark and training collars in the U.S. and Canada, by Houston-based WagAndBark.com™, pet owners have a painless, harmless way to modify the unwanted behavior of their yappy dogs.

"As soon as your dog misbehaves, a cold spray directed toward the neck surprises the dog, interrupting the dog's unwanted behavior, while enabling the owner to direct its attention to another appropriate activity," said Sheryl Davis Farnsworth, founder of WagAndBark.com™. "By following-up with positive reinforcement and rewards, the JetCare® System will help owners teach their dogs to obey without fear or harm."

Veterinarians, trainers and animal rights groups are celebrating the introduction of this innovative cold spray behavior modification system as a break-through alternative to surgical debarking known as ventricular cordectomy. The procedure, which leaves dogs with something between a wheeze and a squeak, is widely criticized as being outdated and inhumane and is banned or restricted in states such as New Jersey, Massachusetts and Ohio, and many European countries.

"Barking can be such a difficult problem to address, and in a perfect world, all neighbors would be understanding of a naturally noisy dog," said Rachel Addleman, DVM, ABVP, veterinarian and certified veterinary acupuncturist. "The reality is that families need a safe and reliable way to address barking. When clients and other veterinarians consult me to find safe and humane products to control unwanted behaviors, I recommend the JetCare® System."

Behavioral modification is also widely endorsed by leading animal advocates across the U.S. The American Veterinary Medical Association recommends that the [debarking] surgery only be done "after behavioral modification efforts to correct excessive vocalization have failed."

The Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) also favors dog-friendly behavioral solutions to barking problems. In its 2003 position paper, the organization states: "The APDT recognizes that dogs bark for a reason, frequently because they are bored, lonely, threatened or otherwise distressed. Debarking silences the dog without addressing the environmental issues that are causing the stress and the barking. The owner then has less reason to be aware of the environmental stressors, and little or no motivation to reduce or correct them, thus leaving the dog still distressed, but silent. Therefore, the APDT is opposed to debarking dogs except as a last resort and unless and until all appropriate behavioral solutions have been explored and exhausted."
WagAndBark's cold spray anti-bark and training collars have many advantages when compared to other collars currently on the market. Unlike electro-static collars, which "shock" dogs, and spray collars that use liquids, such as citronella, which can interfere with a dog's necessary sense of smell, the JetCare® cold spray anti-bark and training collars use a brief, gentle sensation of cold air to disrupt unwanted behavior.

The JetCare® product line is manufactured by Dynavet®, a global leader in animal training which has worked in close collaboration with veterinarians and behaviorists for more than 20 years. The JetCare® cols spray anti-bark and training collars for dogs are available in the U.S. and Canada ONLY through WagAndBark.com™.
