WANdisco Steps Up Subversion Investment In 2011

WANdisco to ensure Subversion remains at the forefront of source code management

WANdisco, the makers of Enterprise Subversion with the most active developers from the Subversion open source project on staff, will increase its investment in the project even further this year to ensure that Subversion remains at the forefront.

Having committed considerable resources for the past several years to maintain Subversion's position as the recognized leader in Standalone Software Configuration Management, WANdisco will deploy more staff from the Subversion community to improve branching and merging functionality in 2011.

WANdisco's investment in Subversion already supports the project by providing access to free online training, free community support and free downloads of certified Subversion binaries - tested to the same rigorous quality assurance standards as WANdisco's enterprise products that support the world's largest Subversion deployments.

"We have long stated our commitment to investing in Subversion and our customers know that we have kept our word," said David Richards, CEO and President of WANdisco. "We value users' feedback and that has led us to dedicate our resources to improving Subversion's branching and merging capabilities during 2011. Profits from WANdisco's Subversion support contracts have been used to hire Subversion committers to enable us to deliver these and other enhancements."

"The focus on branching and merging crystallised late last year after dialogue with users from some of Subversion's largest implementations who have been wanting these changes for some time. While results won't be achieved overnight, we will begin work as soon as possible. Detailed planning is already underway."

WANdisco's Vice President of Product Management, Rob Budas, will begin blogging on the status of these plans later in January to ensure complete transparency. The first of these blogs "The Work Begins" was published earlier this week.

An in-depth account of the latest developments within the Subversion project, including enhancements to branching and merging will be presented by core Subversion developers at WANdisco's Subversion Live conferences in February. With sessions for developers, administrators and IT managers these conferences in the US and Europe are a must for anyone serious about Subversion.

Invest in WANdisco's Subversion Support Services and Support the Subversion Open Source Project
Profits from WANdisco's Subversion support contracts are being used to hire additional Subversion committers and support the activities of the Subversion community. WANdisco's goal is to ensure that Subversion continues to provide the features that its users want and need and that the community has the resources to support these efforts.

WANdisco's Subversion support services are backed by a dedicated team of core Subversion development, QA and support professionals based at the company's offices in the US and the UK. As a result, all of WANdisco's Subversion support customers have access to secure, high quality live support and immediate fixes on a 24-by-7 basis regardless of where they're located. This is critical when problems arise and it's the reason so many organizations that want the same level of support available with commercial enterprise software switch to WANdisco. The team is led by Hyrum Wright. Hyrum has also been the release manager for the Subversion project since early 2008.

WANdisco Offers Free Online Subversion Training
WANdisco is currently offering a series of free online one-hour Subversion training classes with six sessions scheduled between now and the end of March 2011. Registration for these classes is available at: http://goo.gl/JJKiN
WANdisco recommends early registration as space is limited.
