Warehouses are Increasingly Adopting Automation as a Way of Enhancing Productivity

Supply Chain Digital reveals why warehouses are turning to robotic logistics.

Norwich, UK - Supply Chain Digital, a top media source for global supply chain news and information, has reported on next generation warehousing in the August issue, currently online.

The main benefits of automated warehousing include reducing the unit cost of labor, increasing throughput and reducing the number of errors, according to Joel Anderson, President of the International Warehouse Logistics Association (IWLA).

With robotic logistics becoming an increasingly common sight in warehouses globally, Supply Chain Digital investigated the more familiar applications currently in use, including robot palletizing systems, wrapping machines, Pick and Put to Light and voice-directed picking.

While some are questioning the long-term impact on the warehousing industry, Anderson assured Supply Chain Digital that increased automation does not equate to job losses. Jobs in the sector have continued to grow at the same time as the use of automation.
