Students in the Television, Radio & Digital Media Program at Warren County Technical School are producing television and radio public service announcements as part of a campaign in the fight against teen bullying throughout the country. Students in this program are teaming up to send the message that bullying, regardless of how it takes place, is wrong and can result in unfortunate situations. Since the students study radio and television production in this program, they decided to produce psa's for both mediums in the hope that television and radio stations throughout the country will provide airtime to send the message.
Every year Mr. Richard Patricia, teacher of the television, radio & digital media program, provides an assignment to each of his students to create a public service announcement about a topic of their own choice. This year, he decided to change it around a bit by having students create an entire ad campaign about teen bullying, in light of the recent activities that have been taking place across the country. "Bullying is a big problem," says Mr. Patricia. "Students throughout the country are dealing with this on a regular basis, especially in middle school." "It's time for their own peers to send a message that this sort of behavior is inappropriate and can not be tolerated any longer."
Students will produce a total of 10 psa's which include five radio psa's and five psa's made for television. "I am hopeful that an organization will pick up the cost to distribute these throughout the country," says Patricia. "It would also be nice to see radio and television stations donate air-time in order to send these positive messages to the public."
The students in the television, radio & digital media program have won over 100 awards for its audio and video productions, including three Telly Awards. Students in this program have produced a variety of work which has aired on a variety of television and radio stations in the past. Family PC Magazine named one of our students as one of the "Top Ten Wired Teens" in the country, and MSNBC named the program one of the country's "Cool Schools."
