Washburn Arts Council to Hold Second Annual Fall Arts Gala to Fund Critical Arts Needs

Washburn Arts Council and the Washburn Foundation announce their Second Annual Fall Arts Gala, a fundraiser to support visual and performing arts at Washburn High School.

The Washburn Fall Arts Gala will be held Saturday, November 16 from 7:00 - 10:00 PM at St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church, located at 3450 Irving Ave South in Minneapolis. The Beatles-themed celebration will feature student performers and artists, and a special performance by acclaimed jazz artist and Washburn alumnus Connie Evingson. During the evening, there will be opportunities to purchase student art, sign up for a "Great Gathering," buy wine chances and mystery box items, bid on live auction items, and donate cash. Advance tickets are $35 ($40 at the door) and can be purchased through Eventbrite at http://washburnfallartsgala.eventbrite.com. The Gala will include light appetizers and a cash bar.

Nancy Lee, Director of Vocal Music and Fine Arts Coordinator at Washburn High School, states, "We are grateful for the fundraising support from the Council and Foundation, and we know it's making a difference. We have seen tremendous growth in our fine arts programs. For example, our 2013 spring musical received Spotlight Awards for Outstanding Overall Production, Outstanding Overall Performance, and Outstanding Performance by a Student Orchestra. In addition, 19 cast members received individual awards."

Karen Reisch and Deb Keefe, Co-Chairs of the Washburn Arts Council, emphasize, "The arts at Washburn not only are growing, they play a key role in building our community and counteracting the negative impression that some have about our school. We are tremendously proud of our artists and performers, and are committed to making sure they have the resources they need to succeed."

Washburn's mission ensures students' academic and social growth in an environment that fosters active student involvement. Instruction at Washburn takes place within integrated/inclusive classrooms where instruction focuses on academic excellence, equity and access. Washburn High School students, teachers and administration are focused on excellence in academics, athletics and the arts.
