With the healthcare industry's transition to electronic health records (EHR) and the increasing use of mobile devices in the workplace, the volume of digital threats to patient privacy has been on the rise. The financial impact of a personal health information (PHI) breach is now a significant issue for healthcare organizations as a result of HIPAA, The Red Flags Rule and The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009's Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act's (ARRA HITECH) Breach Reporting requirement. While the costs of responding to a data loss event can be exceedingly high, healthcare leaders are now confronted with laws in some states[1] that require remuneration of one thousand dollars per patient, per breach. This has resulted in a significant number of class-action lawsuits where the possible liability may surpass U.S. $4 billion.

During the webinar, Farajun will discuss the strategic and tactical imperatives for action in the next several years with respect to securing PHI data stored in data backup environments, laptops and mobile devices. Farajun will also establish a framework of understanding around the current landscape of healthcare data security and the problem with data breaches. He will also identify winning strategies of patient care organizations with respect to data security and HIPAA compliance.

Eran Farajun serves as executive vice president for Asigra, a developer of backup and recovery software that is built for organizations concerned with backup data security, compliance, integrity and recovery assurance.
