Wendy Luscombe Launches Wendyluscombe.ws to Chronicle Equestrian Feats
New blog-style site keeps an account of dressage rider Luscombe's achievements in training and showing Norwegian Fjord Horses.
Online, July 21, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Dressage rider Wendy Luscombe recently launched a website devoted to her Norwegian Fjord horse training and competitions. Luscombe competes in many northeastern events and her horses have garnered numerous accolades. Wendyluscombe.ws is a blog-style site which will receive continual updates to chronicle the progress of her horses.
For over two decades Wendy Luscombe has championed non-traditional Open Dressage breeds, first Arabian horses then, more recently, Norwegian Fjords. Her first Fjord, Kingston, won the High Score Championship at Dressage at Saratoga on May 29th. Another of her horses, 4-year-old Octane, won his own High Score Championship for Intro at Weatogue in June.
Norwegian Fjord Horses are a small but strong horse breed originating in the mountainous regions of Western Norway. For hundreds of years, it was used as a farm horse but it's being favored for riding in modern times. All horses are a shade of dun and are renowned for their good temperament. The breed is characterized by its compact, muscular body which is quite capable of carrying a human adult. Though its stature may lead many to confuse it with a pony, Fjords are a recognized and protected horse breed.
Dressage is a specific discipline of horse training aimed at developing a horse's natural athletic ability and willingness to perform for the purpose of fully honing its potential as a rider. When a dressage horse is at its peak development, a rider will appear completely relaxed while the horse performs its movements. This training style has been around since Renaissance Europe. In competition, a horse and rider execute certain movements and are judged based on the quality and efficiency.
