What Might the Future Hold for Auditing?
Acclaimed futurist Jack Uldrich explores the possibilities for the future of auditing at an event in Las Vegas today
Las Vegas, NV, November 14, 2017 (Newswire.com) - Futurist speaker and best-selling author Jack Uldrich is in Las Vegas today to give the keynote address at the MIS Training Institute's SuperStrategies Conference & Expo 2017. His presentation "Trendspotting: What Internal Auditors Must Do to Prepare for Tomorrow" will illustrate why internal auditors must anticipate important business trends, and share actions they can take to do that. He will explore how the internet of things, big data, robotics, biotechnology, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and "collaborative consumption" will change life and business for us all in the very near future.
A prolific speaker, Uldrich was in Nashville yesterday speaking on the future of agriculture. Tomorrow, Uldrich heads back to Cleveland, where he spoke twice last month, to share his insights on the future of manufacturing for Vistage at their annual Executive Summit. In this presentation, entitled "The Big AHA: How to Future-Proof Your Business Against Tomorrow’s Trends, Today," he will decipher the complexity of change. Beginning with the twelve trends business leaders must be aware of, and sharing how each will transform every facet of business, Uldrich will explore humility as a means of embracing the new. He will provide concrete actions and specific decision-making questions all leaders must ask themselves today, to create a successful tomorrow.
The future is incredibly bright. To capture its full potential, a healthy belief in the 'impossible' is necessary.

“Every business leader feels it and knows it — the world is changing at an accelerating pace. Business models are shifting, consumer behaviors and preferences are evolving swiftly. In such an environment, it‘s hard to look ahead to the next quarter, let alone the next year. Still, business leaders must position their companies for continued success,” says Uldrich.
His answer to how to position themselves for success lies in his acronym, AHA. It stands for Awareness, Humility, and Action.
“Organizations must strive to enhance their awareness of changes on the horizon; have enough humility to acknowledge that what served the business well in the past might not be sufficient tomorrow, and they need to be willing to take action in the face of less-than-perfect information.”
Business leaders are often unwilling to “unlearn” certain things about their industry. “In fact, we may not even realize we have anything to unlearn,” he said. Uldrich explains the reason so many businesses experience disruption isn’t simply because they didn’t see the change coming; it is because they couldn’t let go of their assumptions soon enough, in other words, they couldn’t unlearn fast enough.
Uldrich suggests, “If you broaden your awareness of the periphery, stay humble about the need to unlearn and become an active thinker, you will come to your ‘A-HA’ moments and better position yourself and your organization for the future.”
