White Plains Hospital CEO Jon B. Schandler Wins Father of the Year Award
WPH President & CEO, Jon B. Schandler has been awarded the prestigious Father of the Year honor by the Greater New York Father's Day Council of Westchester County. Schandler will receive his award at the 6th annual Awards Dinner on June 16th.
Online, June 9, 2011 (Newswire.com) - White Plains, NY - White Plains Hospital President and CEO, Jon B. Schandler has been named a 2011 Father of the Year by the Greater New York Father's Day Council of Westchester County.
Each year the Father's Day Council identifies and honors fathers who have demonstrated the ability to balance their personal lives with their professional careers, to serve as role models for their children, and to help make a positive difference in their communities.
Schandler was one of three men to receive this award and is scheduled to be recognized at the sixth annual Father of the Year Awards Dinner on June 16th, 2011 at the Trump National Golf Club in Briarcliff Manor.
Since 2000, the Fathers' Day Council and the American Diabetes Association have partnered to raise more than $10 million to support the ADA's mission. All proceeds from the event will benefit diabetes research, education, and advocacy.
Jon B. Schandler joined WPH in 1976, serving as Controller and Associate Executive Director prior to being named CEO and President in 1981. He has directed the major renovation and repositioning of White Plains Hospital as the leading healthcare provider in the Westchester County, NY market. He served as Chairman of the Management Committee of HealthStar Network, Inc now Stellaris Health Network, the parent company of White Plains Hospital, from 1996 through 1997 and in 2000 and he was one of the major architects of a very successful four-hospital alliance.
Mr. Schandler was a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Hospital Association (2001-2003), served as the Chairman of the AHA's Regional Policy Board #2 (2001-2003) and was a member of the AHA Strategic Policy Planning Committee. He currently serves as Chairman of the AHA PAC Steering Committee and is very active in local, regional and state hospital associations. He is a past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS); the Northern Metropolitan Hospital Association (NORMET); VHA Metro NY and the Westchester Hospital Consortium. He served earlier Regional Policy Board terms as state delegate and alternate delegate, as well as delegate for AHA's Section for Metropolitan Hospitals. Mr. Schandler also served as a member of Governor Cuomo's Healthcare Advisory Board.
Mr. Schandler serves as an adjunct professor at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and Pace University and teaches regularly at the graduate level and the Law School.
Very involved in community activities, Mr. Schandler serves as a Board member of the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, member of the Board of the Westchester/Putnam Workforce Investment Board, Westchester Economic Development Agency, Westchester County Association, Westchester Chamber of Commerce, New Castle Board of Assessment Review and the Chappaqua Ambulance Corp. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of Hospice of Westchester.
Mr. Schandler earned his bachelor's degree from Villanova University and an M.B.A. from Fordham University.
