The Association for Women in Communications Hosts Panel:
WHO WON, AND WHY?
SPIN & SUBSTANCE and the use of SOCIAL MEDIA
In the November Election
Five politically astute panelists, all highly experienced with social media, will debrief us the day after the November election, discussing:
o How was social media used to get out the vote? Was it effective?
o What were the lessons learned?
o Were women's issues on the table?
o Which candidates communicated their message points most effectively?
o Were there surprises in the election results?
o Which campaigns gathered the most attention and why?
HELENE SCHNEIDER, current Mayor of Santa Barbara, will provide a context for the panel and discuss her strategies for communicating with a variety of public groups, both through presentations and social media.
GIANA MAGNOLI and LARA COOPER are political journalists with www.Noozhawk.com, focusing on local issues including the controversial marijuana issue and the school board election.
MARY ROSE has a political consulting firm, Mary Rose & Associates, providing expertise in fundraising, direct mail voter contact, and strategic planning with experience in state, local and judicial campaigns. Mary Rose primarily serves Democratic candidates.
NELS HENDERSON, former aide to Mayor Marty Blum, has an MA in Organizational Management from Antioch University and is a Marketing Project Manager and web expert for Citrix Online. He is also an expert in how to use social media in business and the political sector.
JOE ARMENDARIZ is a Carpinteria City Council member and provides, through his company Armendariz Partners, public affairs support for local nonprofits, including the Santa Barbara County Taxpayers Association (SBCTA), Santa Barbara Technology and Industry Association (SBTIA), the Greater Santa Barbara Lodging and Restaurant Association, Fair Managed Care, and energy companies, including ExxonMobil and PXP.
