Why You Need To Get A Grip On Your Golf Game
Fixing your club grip is probably one of the most important and overlooked things you can do to improve your golf game.
Online, March 15, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Hey, everyone!
If you can't grip the club you can't play. This seems simple enough, but you'd be surprised to know how many of you I see with the wrong grip.
Check out this article from my our friend Ron Herridge, who is a PGA Golf Professional.

The hands should be in balance on the golf club. This can be evaluated by holding the club at address and then extending the fingers downward so the club will drop to the ground. If the grip is in balance, the palms will face one another as if preparing to clap. An unbalanced hold will result in the palms facing upward or downward.
The hold of the club should also feel like it is more in the fingers than the palms. Take a bare shaft (without the grip) or a flagstick and grip it.
It will usually tend to rest mostly in the fingers. Swing the implement through the air, listening for the "swoosh" sound.
Grip pressure is another key factor. As stated above, physical make-up may determine how tightly or loosely a player tends to hold, but holding too tight may cause a lack of club release. This can greatly reduce clubhead speed and distance.
When holding the club with the proper pressure, the fingers and arms stay tension-free and the club head is able the swing as a pendulum. Observe this by lightly holding a club by the grip with the first two fingers and thumb of your dominant hand. The club needs to be in a vertical position. Allow the club to swing as a pendulum, then grasp the club with the palm. The momentum of the pendulum will stop. An example of what may happen to the club as grip pressure increases in the golf swing.

Again, a simple thing but as you may know it IS the simple things in this game that can make the difference between shooting 80 or 180.
