Willig, Williams & Davidson Partner Stuart W. Davidson Receives City of Hope's Spirit of Life® Award

Philadelphia labor and employment lawyer honored for commitment to community service

City of Hope and the Tri-State Labor & Management Council have honored labor and employment lawyer Stuart W. Davidson, Esq. of Willig, Williams & Davidson with the Spirit of Life® Award.

Davidson, a partner with Willig, Williams & Davidson, was presented with the award on Sept. 19, 2013 during a gala reception at Tendenza in Philadelphia. All proceeds from the evening benefited City of Hope, a national research, educational and treatment institution for cancer, HIV, diabetes and more.

City of Hope, which has a fundraising office in Philadelphia, recognized Davidson for his lifetime of achievement, specifically his dedication to philanthropic activities. Davidson is the third Willig, Williams & Davidson attorney to receive the Spirit of Life® Award, which is the highest honor that City of Hope bestows on individuals who effect change through a lifetime of professional and philanthropic success. Firm managing partner, Deborah R. Willig, Esq., was honored with the Spirit of Life® Award in 1987 and the firm's partner, Ralph J. Teti, Esq., was recognized in 2010.

"I am thrilled to join my colleagues in supporting City of Hope in the battle against cancer and other life-threatening diseases," Davidson said. "The money we raise enables the organization to continue transforming cutting-edge research into treatments and prevention strategies that save lives."

Davidson was honored with Michael J. Hanlon, a shareholder in the Labor and Employment section of the Philadelphia office of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC.

During Davidson's legal career, he has been involved in representing a wide range of union workers, including musicians, longshoremen, machinists, steelworkers, firefighters, teamsters, police officers, food and commercial workers, NFL players and university professors. His work for both public and private-sector unions includes leading contract negotiations, presenting interest and grievance arbitrations, representing employee benefit funds and advising clients on internal union matters. He also has played key roles in the development of progressive new benefit structures with the pension and health and welfare plans he represents.

For nearly 20 years, Davidson's peers consistently have selected him for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® in the fields of Labor and Employment Law. He also has been named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer by Thomson Reuters, published annually in Philadelphia magazine, every year since 2004. Earlier this year, Davidson was appointed Chair of the Pennsylvania Board of Law Examiners. He also has been elected a Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers and will be installed in a ceremony in November.

Community involvement is a priority to Davidson. In addition to his work supporting City of Hope, he also has received the Jewish Labor Committee's Humanitarian Award. He has been a past trustee of Johns Hopkins University and currently serves as chairman of the American Friends of the Yitzhak Rabin Center.
