Wings Over North Georgia to Feature Smoke-n-Thunder Jet Car & Jelly Belly Aerobatic Comedy Shows

Wings Over North Georgia is hosting an air show in Rome, Georgia that will be one of the largest in the world. The Smoke-n-Thunder Jet Car and Jelly Belly Aerobatic Comedy shows have just been added to a lineup that sure to wow all!

The Black Diamond Jet Demonstration and AeroStars Aerobatic Flight Teams will take to the north Georgia skies above the Richard B. Russell Regional Airport in Rome, Ga., on Oct. 12-13 as headliners for the 2013 Wings Over North Georgia air show. The weekend will also include plenty of other amazing performers, including 0-400mph in 8.5 seconds Smoke-n-Thunder Jet Car and the Jelly Belly aerobatic comedy show routine.

"Unquestionably two of our fan favorites from the 2012 inaugural air show were Bill Braack and Kent Peitsch. We are excited to have them returning to perform at the 2013 Wings Over North Georgia air show. These veteran performers always bring high levels of adrenaline along with an extreme WOW factor performance," said John Cowman, JLC Airshow Management president.

Smoke-n-Thunder Jet Car

As the Smoke-n-Thunder Jet Car engine roars to life, pilot Bill Braack revs up the air show crowds with tons of smoke and sonic thunder booms preparing for his high-speed performance in a race against an airplane. Fans will watch as Braack pulls 4-Gs, accelerating to 400 miles per hour in 8.5 seconds during the race. He then experiences 11-Gs of negative force during the deceleration process.

The jet car is powered by a Westinghouse J34 jet engine originally used in the North American T-2A Buckeye aircraft. The jet turbine in full afterburner produces 7,500 pounds of thrust creating more than 10,000 horsepower while accelerating to speeds of 400 miles per hour before a deployed drag parachute brings the jet car to a halt.

Braack served in the Air Force Reserve as a Career Enlisted Aviator performing aircrew duties as a C-141 and C-130 Flight Engineer. He retired in 2005 after 20 years of service. Braack was named as one of the Outstanding Airman of the Year for the Air Force Reserve Command and currently serves on the International Council Air Shows ethics committee. He holds FAA ratings as both a flight engineer and civilian pilot.

"Always a crowd pleaser, Bill and Scott have piloted the jet car show in more than 4,000 exhilarating performances since 1985 throughout America, always maintaining a 100 percent safety record. Wings Over North Georgia will roar again this year when Bill lights the 10,000 horsepower afterburner and thunders down the runway while racing an aerobatic competitor at speeds approaching 400mph," said Cowman.

Jelly Belly Comedy Show

Kent Pietsch, sponsored by Jelly Belly®, will bring his aerobatic comedy act to North Georgia's skies in his bright yellow, jelly bean-decorated 1942 Interstate Cadet aircraft. Pietsch performs extreme maneuvers during his performance such as a dead stick, or total power off, routine from an altitude of 6,000 feet. During the performance, the aircraft's aileron will fall off in mid-air, and Pietsch will land the aircraft on top of his RV.

"Kent brings a dry sense of humor, fun and of course the world famous Jelly Belly® jelly bean products to every event he performs. His three incredible acts that you don't want to miss this year include the comedy show, dead stick landing and infamous motor home top landing," said Cowman.

Pietsch began his flying career at a young age and at 16 years old took his first solo flight. Following in his father's footsteps, Pietsch began flying commercial charters for his father's company Pietsch Aircraft in Minot, N.D., in 1974. Soon after, he restored his Interstate Cadet and began flying air shows with his father and brother Gary.
