Winning Through Development In The New Economy

After completing the first phase of the Riverdale Town Center complex, incentive-rich retail and business opportunities are available for entrepreneurs, developers and investors in the city.

Businesses and municipalities throughout the United States are looking for ways to meet the challenges of today's economy. In many cases, traditional revenue growth strategies are unable to meet their changing realities. Yet the City of Riverdale does not seem to be the norm. The city has positioned itself for the future through smart growth development strategies. After completing the first phase of the Riverdale Town Center complex, incentive-rich retail and business opportunities are available for entrepreneurs, developers and investors.

The Riverdale Town Center complex is located just south of Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport and adjacent to Southern Regional Medical Center. The five block area includes over 600,000 square feet of big box retail, restaurants and boutiques. The new public development, completed in October 2010, includes a new 32,000 square feet government center, 52,000 square feet civic and conference center and a 1,000 seat outdoor amphitheater.

The second phase of Riverdale Town Center has a new access road and a 150-space parking garage. The third phase includes a 120-room "green" hotel, a 55,000 square feet classroom building, and 40,000 square feet of new retail space. The fourth phase offers 225 apartments and office space.

To showcase some of the best retail and business opportunities in the southeast, the Riverdale Downtown Development Authority is hosting Developer's Day on Friday, March 11, 2011. "Our goal for the Riverdale Town Center complex is to create a mixed-use, 'green' environment that offers core investment avenues for new business, housing, and entertainment," said Michael Syphoe, executive director. "The City of Riverdale must continue to be self-sufficient and thrive. The officials of this city know what is important to the community - growth in population, good jobs, and healthy neighborhoods. In this new economy, the best way to stay on task and win is through smart development," continued Syphoe.

The guest speaker for Developer's Day is David F. Haddow, CRE, founder and president of Haddow & Company. Since 1979, Haddow has represented individual and institutional clients in real investments. A former mortgage banker and city planner, he serves as a part-time instructor in the College of Business Administration at Georgia State University and the College of Architecture at Georgia Tech. The event includes breakfast, a presentation, tour of the complex and parcels, as well as lunch.
