WipeDrive Enterprise Now Compliant With NIST 800-88r-1+3 Guidelines
WhiteCanyon Software announces the new release of WipeDrive Enterprise is in compliance with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) 800-88r-1 + 3 pass guidelines for firmware-based erasure of hard drives, NVMe drives and solid-state drives.
AMERICAN FORK, Utah, February 6, 2019 (Newswire.com) - WhiteCanyon Software, manufacturer of WipeDrive Enterprise - the highest certified data sanitization in the world, today announced compliance with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) 800-88r-1 + 3 pass guidelines for firmware-based erasure of hard drives, NVMe drives and solid-state drives. The new release of WipeDrive Enterprise incorporates the NIST-recommended overwrite patterns with a patent-pending encryption key removal and verification process.
"In 2014, NIST updated their guidelines to include sanitizing newer media types such as ATA, NVMe, and SCSI (both HDD and SSD)," says Kelly Holmes, Western North America Sales Manager, WhiteCanyon Software. "WipeDrive has added support for the NIST 800-88r1 Purge/Clear on said drives and can reach purge/clear status by utilizing Firmware-based commands, “sanitize” and “secure-erase”, after and DCO or HPA have been removed. The software then verifies 10% of the media to ensure a successful wipe."

The implementation of the ATA’s Secure Erase and Sanitize Device commands is dependent on individual drive manufacturer’s implementation but technological advances have found most manufacturers are conforming to the new standard. It is recommended that drive specifications are reviewed prior to performing an overwrite.
The WipeDrive Enterprise software removes the encryption key prior to the erasure and then overwrites the drive with a NIST compliant pattern. The data sanitization is then verified through the entire drive. The encryption key is removed again, and the tamper-proof audit trail is saved to any addressable location the user prefers.
WipeDrive not only supports NIST Standards but can boot on Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems. It can also boot in Windows and allow the secure erasure of attached USB and network devices. Other enhancements include integration into Makor, Cyclution, Navision, IQ Reseller and other ERP systems.
WhiteCanyon continues to pioneer the data erasure industry by creating solutions to ongoing technical concerns and providing world-class support to clients globally. The WipeDrive tool is implemented in most Fortune 100 organizations, military and government agencies throughout the world and has received NATO, Common Criteria, ADISA, NCSC, and 3rd party HIPAA certification.
