With Its Own Joint Registry, SOS Proves to Be a Leader in Joint Replacement Patient Outcomes
SYRACUSE, N.Y., June 22, 2020 (Newswire.com) - Dr. Brett Greenky, president and joint replacement surgeon at Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists (SOS), had a lot to say about the latest SOS joint registry.
“We now have 12 years of data regarding patient outcomes for joint replacement surgery at SOS. Our 2020 Joint Registry Report details long term trends and is an enormous database,” Dr. Greenky said.
“While it’s always great to see that our patient outcomes exceed national benchmarks, the best reward is when a patient tells you how their life has improved after surgery.”
Joint registries are commonplace in many European countries. However, in the U.S., SOS is an industry leader in compiling data for its own joint registry.
The 2020 SOS joint registry includes data for 14,000 joint replacement patients over five years. The data showed that 97% of responding patients experienced improvements in terms of pain six months after hip surgery. In addition, 92% of hip replacement patients said surgery met or exceeded expectations for motion and strength.
The methodology for data collection included patient satisfaction surveys. In addition, the 2020 SOS joint registry used five validated outcome instruments to measure pain and functionality among joint replacement surgery patients.
