With JIIPKEY, WIKIBOX Inc. Solves Bluetooth Vulnerability Issues for IoT Smart Home Devices

WIKIBOX's flagship product, JIIPKEY, is a smart door lock that uses soundwave communication technology instead of Bluetooth.

WIKIBOX Inc., a home automation device company, discovered that current smart door locks on the market heavily revolve around Bluetooth connection between the lock and the user’s smartphone. As a result, WIKIBOX has developed a new generation of smart door locks called JIIPKEY.

Two years ago, IoT Security Company, Armis, disclosed the airborne attack vector BlueBorne, a set of nine exploitable Bluetooth vulnerabilities that can give an attacker complete control of a device and its data. It impacted almost every connected device running Android, Linux, Windows, and iOS versions before iOS 10, regardless of the Bluetooth version in use.

JIIPKEY opts out of Bluetooth and instead, uses encrypted soundwaves as its wireless communication protocol. With JIIPKEY, the door is unlocked by a SoundKey™️ which is an encrypted sound file that is undetectable by the human ear. Once a SoundKey™️ is generated through the JIIPKEY app, the corresponding code is sent to the lock, and the SoundKey™️ can then be sent to other people via text or other third-party messaging apps.

JIIPKEY also allows its users to use a traditional key or a keypad as backup unlocking mechanisms. This ensures that homeowners have total control over their method of entry for security and convenience purposes.
