Wolf Creek Academy Students Learn Value of Reciprocity by Volunteering

Wolf Creek Academy students volunteer to build self esteem and confidence.

In recent weeks, students enrolled in the therapeutic program of Wolf Creek Academy have volunteered some of their time at a local area ski resort. The contributions by Wolf Creek Academy students include cleaning, weed eating slopes and other various projects. This has been an annual project for Wolf Creek Academy for the past thirteen years or so.

"Projects like these help to build self esteem, confidence and give students a sense of accomplishment," says Dr. Patricia Jones, director and co-founder of Wolf Creek Academy.

Based in western North Carolina, Wolf Creek Academy is a private, non-profit, emotional growth school that offers education and programs for teens with a history of emotional difficulties, poor academic performance, strained family relationships and behavior problems. Volunteer programs are one of the many things that make the school unique.

Students at Wolf Creek Academy are continuing their volunteer work, helping with greeting visitors, cleaning and organizing lift lines throughout the ski season. They enjoy meeting young people who come from various places all over the US.

Additionally, Wolf Creek Academy students are able to take advantage of the slopes for fun and fellowship throughout the ski season. Some of the upper-level students will receive compensation for their work.

All of the participating students earn community service hours towards their graduation, which will also help in obtaining scholarships as they look into colleges of their choice.
