Women Failing to Find Jobs to Fit Motherhood Create Their Own: Almost a 50% Increase in Female Entrepreneurship

As far as entrepreneur stories go, Sophie Musumeci and Alison Valenti have a great one to share. Fed up with the lack of 'real' support for entrepreneur mums, they set out to create a community of like-minded woman who had each other's back… and the rest, as they say, is history.

Real Entrepreneur Mums, a business referral networking group established in 2016, started with six women sitting around a kitchen bench in Sydney’s Hills District, and in just over a year, has grown to have more than 130 members, and counting – represented across Australia.

Data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows women make up 34 percent of all small business operators (668,670 women). This represents a 46 percent increase during the past decade.

"They say it takes a village to grow a family. Well, it's the same for business! You need to surround yourself with people who've got your back and want to help you succeed. This is the value of Real Entrepreneur Mums communities - people who know, like and trust you… people who will be your biggest raving fans,"

With women at its core, Real Entrepreneur Mums is breaking down barriers for self-employed women and mums – supporting its community of female entrepreneurs who are real, engaged, committed to realizing their dream, smashing their goals, and ready to step up and make 2018 their best yet.

“For many mums, fitting motherhood around being an employee just doesn’t work. In fact, it’s the number one reason why women don’t return to the workforce following the birth of their child – instead becoming small business owners. But being an entrepreneur is tough and the road to success can be challenging and lonely. That’s where Real Entrepreneur Mums comes in,” says Co-Founder of Real Entrepreneur Mums, Alison Valenti.

Real Entrepreneur Mums knows that being ‘Mum’ is your first priority. That’s why the location-based community groups facilitate women coming together, in a supportive and judgement-free environment, to focus on growing their business, smashing their goals and supporting other women in business – all within school hours and school terms!

Real Entrepreneur Mums communities meet twice monthly for 90 minutes. The sessions are dynamic and energetic, and leave members feeling inspired to go after their goals, while building their business network through genuine referrals.
